This commercial assignment was a great opportunity to meet the children’s author John McLay and his wife and publisher Gillian. They work together from their home in Bath with John writing children’s books and Gillian working as a children’s literary scout. Together they have also set up the Daily Telegraph Bath Festival of Childrens Literature.
My aim was to do some good quality head shots for them both to use in publications and promotional work.
Although I brought lots of lighting I opted to use natural light, as they had some lovely large windows in the their victorian house.
We started with individual shots and then John brought down an amazing prop of a knights helmet and I was able to get some quirky and silly images that would hopefully appeal to his target age group!
Then we carried on with some more serious head shots and a few of Gillian and John together.
John wanted to use their feature patterned wall paper as background which I think worked really well.
I supplied them with the images in both black and white and colour so they can use for various publications and pr purposes. It was lovely to meet them both and they were pleasure to work with.
